Oh, the irony! Manchester compo company learn ‘where there’s blame, there’s a fine’ with flyposting penalty

A compensation company have had an ‘accident’ of their own after they were fined more than £9,000 for illegally putting up adverts across Manchester.

Mr Compensator was handed a hefty fine of £8,000 by Manchester City Council for flyposting around the city.

They were also ordered to pay £1,029 costs, with a £100 victims of crime surcharge, during a hearing at Manchester Magistrates’ Court.

Councillor Bernard Priest, Manchester City Council’s deputy leader, said: “Illegal posters like this are not just unsightly for residents, they cost time and money to remove and often generate litter.

“The size of this fine demonstrates that both ourselves and the courts take this offence very seriously and companies who think they can treat the city as their free advertising hoarding should think again.”

The Ancoats based company placed adverts for the company’s services on lampposts around the city.

The posters read ‘Had an accident? Call Mr Compensator now’ and were found in Withington, Fallowfield, Levenshulme, Rusholme, Chorlton and Longsight last December.

The company was fined £1,000 for each of the posters that was removed.

Speaking during the hearing, the chairman of the bench praised the City Council for its work in bringing Mr Compensator to court and hoped companies would not continue to breach the legislation.
