Police hunt man who left victim for dead after brutal assault in Tameside

By John McDougall

Police are appealing to the public to help identify a man who left his victim for dead following a brutal assault in Tameside.

The 22-year-old man suffered a broken jaw and a head injury, after being assaulted by two men whom he had shared a silver Audi car journey with, and was only discovered by a passer-by.

He was assaulted at 5.15am on September 8 on Dowson Road, Hyde, after he got out the car and walked past a Shell Garage.

The victim was assaulted by the two very people he had shared the car journey with, after an argument broke out among the trio.

Detective Constable Anna Barker, from Tameside Criminal Investigation Department (CID), said: “The victim has been left with serious injury and is currently in an induced coma and breathing through a ventilator.”

One 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of Section 20 assault and is now on bail, but police are now looking for a second man in connection to this assault.

Detective Constable Barker continued: “I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the assault or saw a silver Audi car in Dowson Road area, to come forward.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 7834 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
