Manchester City striker Stevan Jovetic has ‘no regrets’ over summer switch despite interest from European giants

By Tim Hyde

Despite being chased by some of European football’s most illustrious clubs during the summer Manchester City striker Stevan Jovetic says he has no regrets about joining the Blues.

The Montenegro star was heavily linked with a switch to Italian giants Juventus but after the Old Lady of Turin failed to meet Fiorentina’s asking price which prompted a £22million swoop for City.

The 23-year-old has now admitted that he would have ended up in Turin if Manchester City hadn’t prized him away from Italy.

“If I would have not gone to Manchester City, I would have gone to Juventus,” he told Italian newspaper Tuttosport.

“This summer, the situation was simple: I had a price of €30 (£25.4) million, but I never said that I wanted to go to Juve.

“I only asked to leave Fiorentina and I was pleased. The interest of Juventus? I was aware of the deal, I read about it on the newspapers and I know that they were speaking with my agent.

“In the end, however, I chose to go abroad and now I’m happy. I don’t regret the choice I made.”

City’s pacey forward is one of Europe’s most exciting talents and after a slow start to his career at the Etihad he hopes that he can begin to live up to his price tag.

“I arrived at City behind in my physical condition and so I have always been behind the shape of others,” he said.

“Then I went to the national team and I got injured again, thus losing more time.”

After captaining Montenegro against England on Friday the striker feels that he showed he is getting back to his best.

“Against England, I proved to be in good shape and now I just need to play regularly to find the best condition, I’m not worried,” he said.
