MasterChef winner Ping brings a taste of Asia to the Trafford Centre with new venture

MasterChef winner Ping Coombes is bringing a taste of the Orient to Manchester’s Trafford Centre with the launch of her first solo project Ping Pan-Asian.

The 2014 champion is launching the contemporary pan-Asian delicatessen at the centre’s Selfridges store and at Selfridges in London’s Oxford Street.

The venture, inspired by the original taste of Malaysian-Chinese cuisine , is a partnership between Coombes and global Malaysian brand PappaRich.

As well as being Coombes first solo project, it is also PappaRich’s first UK launch

Ping Pan-Asian aims to reflect the balance and harmony of the different cultures in South-East Asian that have combined to give the distinctive, unique taste of Pan-Asian cuisine.

Commenting on the opening of the counters Coombes said: “I’m delighted to be collaborating with Selfridges Manchester Trafford Centre on my new Ping Pan-Asian delicatessen. We’ve worked closely together to perfect the menu and they really share my passion and enthusiasm for fresh ingredients and delicious flavours.

“I’m excited to be open and welcome guests to enjoy our fresh and incredibly tasty food.”

Located in the Selfridges’ Foodhall on the Upper Floor Ping Pan-Asian offers delicious, freshly prepared options, such as, duck spring rolls, freshly made chicken satay and Dim Sum including prawn and chive dumplings, beef siu mai and king prawn spring rolls ready to pick up for lunch or dinner.

Hannah Bass, Selfridges director of restaurants, said “It has been a real pleasure to work with Ping on this project and we’re thrilled to be launching Ping Pan-Asian exclusively in Selfridges.

“Her passion and expertise in Pan-Asian cuisine have led to a fantastic contemporary offer. I am sure visitors will enjoy discovering the new eatery and delicatessen offer.”

After being crowned 2014 MasterChef champion, Coombes has worked around the world as a Global Malaysian Kitchen ambassador, published her first cookbook “Malaysian” with Orion and has appeared on TV shows across the UK and beyond.
