A man found unconscious in a wheelie remains in hospital and Manchester police are appealing to the public to help with their investigations.

Officers were dispatched to Glamis Avenue, Clayton, after the 40-year-old man was found out cold at around 10am on January 12 – he is believed to have been the victim of an assault.

He was taken to hospital by emergency services, where he remains in a stable condition, and inquiries are ongoing to find how he ended up in the bin.

Detective Sergeant Chris Mellors, based at Central Park, said: "The victim has little recollection of what happened to him but based on the condition he was found in, we do believe he was the victim of an assault.

"We are therefore keen to speak to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area.

"I would like to reassure residents that this is being treated as an isolated incident and there is no reason for anyone to be overly alarmed."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 4509 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
