‘That’s just our job’: Flitcroft calm on Bury schedule as four games in ten days loom

Bury boss David Flitcroft insists that his side is ready for a crucial run of four games in ten days, which includes a third round FA Cup replay, but starts with a visit from high-flying Walsall.

The Shakers have been struggling for league form of late and face a tough task against one of the teams gunning for automatic promotion.

However, Bury will be looking to spring a surprise having beaten the Saddlers away 1-0 in September, which started a run of five consecutive league victories, and

Flitcroft is confident his team is prepared for the quick turnaround in games.

“Players like that [a run of games], the turnaround is good,” he said.

“We have got a fantastic training venue where we can spin games around and put great recovery strategies in place.

“We have got to make sure we get the players ready and in tune for the upcoming games, but that’s part of a footballer’s job to make sure he’s fit and ready for Saturday and Tuesday fixtures.”

The January transfer window is at the mid-way point and young prospect Matty Foulds is the major outgoing so far, in an undisclosed deal to Everton.

But Flitcroft says that the club is preparing for every eventuality during the window if larger clubs turn their attention to his key players.

“We are potentially planning for that [interest from other clubs],” he said.

“You’ve got to know the market, who wants those players and where the bids might come from – but you can plan for that.

“There are certain players that you just can’t afford to lose – it would be a near impossibility because you can’t replace them and they’re so specialised in what they do.

“We’re planning for that but you can’t always get it right.

“Some clubs will try and spook you, but we’re trying to be ahead of the curve and continuously plan for that eventual sale of a player.”
