Walkden pensioner challenges burgalar but is robbed instead

By Katie Rowley

An elderly pensioner is recovering after having money stolen from right in front of her by a burglar in her Walkden home.

The 87-year-old woman was returning from the shops to her home on Bolton Road when she discovered the intruder, at approximately 2pm on Monday February 13.

The intruder harassed the woman, demanding her handbag. He rummaged through her shopping before taking her purse and cash.

Police Constable Chris Jackson, of the Volume Crime Team, said: “What started as a trip to the shops for the victim, ended with her being confronted by a stranger in her home.

“While she was not physically injured she has been left shaken and I want the public’s help to identify the offender.

The offender is described as white, 6ft tall, of medium build with stubble on his face and was wearing a dark woollen hat.

Constable Jackson urges anyone who knows the man or was in the area and saw someone matching the description to please get in touch. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 5186, or can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
