CCTV image released: 'Disturbing' sex attacker who tried to attack woman in alleyway wanted by Wigan police

CCTV images of a predatory male wanted in connection with a sexual assault in Wigan have been released by police today.

The assault took place on January 20, at around 12.30am as the 27-year-old victim was walking down Ledbury Street, Leigh.

The victim escaped uninjured, but was left shocked by the incident after the she managed to push away her assailant, who had forced her down a ginnel and began to sexually assault her.

Detective Sergeant Graham Clare, of Wigan CID, said: “This was a disturbing sex attack on a woman walking home at night.

“Thankfully the victim had the presence of mind to push him away and he ran off before the attack could get even more serious.”

Greater Manchester Police are asking for help in identifying the man, who was described as Asian, about 28 years old, 5ft 4 inches tall, with a slim build and a moustache.

“I now want to hear from anyone who either saw or heard anything that night or who recognises the man in the image,” Detective Sergeant Clare added.
