They don't understand football! Manchester City's Roberto Mancini blasts critics calling for his head

A defiant Roberto Mancini hit out against those calling for his head today, claiming they don’t understand football.

The Manchester City manager has come under scrutiny since his side slipped 12 points off the Premier League title pace last Sunday.

But the Italian, who guided City to the title last season and FA Cup triumph the year before, dismissed his critics ahead of their tie with Leeds United.

"All the people who talk about this don't understand football,” he said.

"Because if Manchester City should sack me, the other 20 teams in the Premier League should be without a manager."

Mancini insisted in recent weeks he is happy in the North West and will honour the remaining four years of his contract with City.

But poor results, Champions League exit and suggestions he is unhappy in England have prompted questions surrounding his future.

However, the 48-year-old is looking forward to winning more trophies this season and moving forward with the club.

"We started our project three years ago,” he said.

"In three years we are always on the top – we fight for the title, we have won three trophies, we have the chance to win more this year.”

City host Leeds on Sunday in an FA Cup fifth round tie, before Chelsea visit the following weekend.
