'Match we have to win': Carlos Tevez claims Manchester City can taste FA Cup glory once more

Manchester City’s players are desperate to taste FA Cup glory again, according to their 2011 winning captain and striker, Carlos Tevez.

Following an early Champions League exit and now sitting 12 points behind Manchester United in the title race, the competition represents much needed silverware for the Citizens.

And, as City prepare to host Leeds United in the fifth round on Sunday, the Argentine striker sees the FA Cup as a key part of the club’s season.

“It is very important for all the players because the FA Cup is something we still have a good chance of winning,” said Tevez.

“With us being 12 points behind Manchester United in the league, obviously we want to go ahead and progress in this competition.

“This is a match that we have to win.”

City’s FA Cup triumph in 2011 was their first piece of silverware under Roberto Mancini and ended a 42-year wait for the trophy.

And Tevez – who lifted the trophy that day – recalls the day with fondness, hoping to repeat the triumph two years on.

“It was a great moment for me,” he said.

“To be the captain on the day and to lift that trophy, I have to say it gave me great satisfaction.

“Of course, it would be nice to have that opportunity again, I think we have a big chance and so we will be giving our all throughout.”

But the striker is careful not to get ahead of himself, focussing on Sunday’s clash with Leeds, who saw off Tottenham Hotspurs in the fourth round.

“Of course it is going to be a tough match, both teams are going into it wanting to win,” he added.

“We have to make sure we keep our concentration and give it our best from the very first minute.”
