Droylsden soldier charged with murder of girlfriend in multiple stabbing attack

A serving Droylsden soldier was charged with the murder of his girlfriend yesterday.

Ian Lowe, 25, of the 1st Battalion the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, will appear before Tameside Magistrates' Court tomorrow.

Leanne McNuff, 24, was discovered by police at her home in on Sunday night with multiple stab wounds and died in hospital soon after.

Chief Crown Prosecutor for the North West Nazir Afzal said: "I have today advised Greater Manchester Police to charge Ian Lowe, 25, with the murder of Leanne McNuff, 24, at her home in Droylsden, Greater Manchester on March 11.

"The decision was taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors.

"Ian Lowe will appear at Tameside Magistrates' Court tomorrow."

Police were called to Mellor Street at about 7.45pm on Sunday by the ambulance service following reports a woman had been assaulted.

Miss McHuff’s family paid tribute to her: “In a statement, her parents Margaret and James said: "Leanne was a beautiful, kind-hearted and generous girl, who lived and breathed for her four-year-old son Jaden, who in turn idolised and adored his mummy.

"Leanne had a great sense of humour, with lovely manners, and was loved by everyone who knew her."
