Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after car ‘deliberately’ ploughs into two Port Vale fans in Rochdale

A man was arrested last night over an alleged ‘deliberate’ Rochdale hit and run which left two Port Vale fans seriously ill in hospital this weekend.

It is believed the incident occurred following an altercation at a pub, before a car ploughed into a group of five men walking to the football stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Two men were hit and were rushed to hospital; one 52-year-old suffered arm and hip injuries while another 36-year-old suffered a serious head injury. His condition is described as serious but stable.

A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder last night.

The men had left the Commercial Public House on Lower Tweedale Street and were walking along Station Road when the car hit them and then failed to stop.

Police are urging anyone with information on the incident, which occurred around 2.45pm on the mini roundabout outside Rochdale Train Station – to come forward.
