Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs is the greatest player in Premier League history, according to fans voted for the best of the past 20 years.

The 38-year-old midfield maestro beat off stiff competition from fellow Red Paul Scholes, Dutchman Dennis Bergkamp and Arsenal hero Thierry Henry among others to pick up the prestigious prize.

In a double for the Old Trafford giants boss Sir Alex Ferguson was also named the greatest manager in the league’s 20-year history.

The 70-year-old Scot has claimed the title on 12 occasions since the league’s inception in 1992 and has achieved unrivalled success during his 25 year career at the club.

The Premier League 20 Seasons Awards have honoured the greatest goals, saves, celebrations and fantasy team to grace the top tier of English football.

The most decorated player in the English game said upon receiving the award that he’s enjoying playing 'more than ever', despite the obvious disappointment of missing out on a 13th title this season.

The Reds lost out to bitter rivals City in the final minutes of Sunday afternoon and it has left a sour taste for Giggs.

“It's disappointing not to win the title, but it has been an exciting season," The Welshman said.

“But we're obviously gutted, although we're proud of the way we've played this year,” he added. “There are a lot of positives to take from this season."

Giggs described fellow award-winner and boss Ferguson as the biggest influence on his illustrious career.

“I have enjoyed the 20 seasons – that's why I'm still playing, I enjoy it more than ever. I will go on as long as I'm still enjoying it and I'm getting picked.

He added: “I feel good at the moment.”
