Worst robber ever? Manchester’s ‘Cinderella thief’ trips over own bike and loses shoe in ‘idiotic’ bungled raid

By Tom Pilcher

Cinderella was one of the most beautiful princesses ever. But Manchester’s ‘Cinderella thief’ is being dubbed one of the worst robbers ever.

The knife-wielding hoodie tripped over his own bike and lost his shoe while fleeing the Heywood store he was targeting last month.

And police are branding it one of the worst attempts at a robbery they’ve ever seen.

He was chased away from Amin News on Market Street by two staff at around 6.15am on Saturday September 21 having demanded cash.

With one shoe missing he scarpered onto Mission Street and then Fox Street, leaving police dumbfounded by the hapless thief’s botched attempt.

“This has to be one of the most idiotic attempts to steal cash from a shop that I can remember,” Detective Constable Daniel Daly said.

“But we are appealing for information to help trace this man because his stupidity does not blind us to just how serious an incident this actually was.”

DC Daly also commended the bravery and spirit of the shopkeepers.

“The communities of Heywood will never tolerate intimidation of this nature, where thieves think they can make a quick buck just by walking into a shop and making threats,” he said.

The slim assailant, whose face was covered with a scarf, is described as being white, in his early 20s and about 5ft 7in.

Anyone with information or witnesses should call police on 0161 856 8742 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
