CCTV: Boy, 13, lured to Droylsden church for sex acts by man who promised to show him ‘gargoyles’

By Tim Hyde

CCTV images of a man suspected of offering a 13-year-old boy cash for sexual acts after enticing him to a Droylsden church on Saturday to ‘look at the gargoyles’ has been released.

The teenager was befriended by a stranger at Clayton Hall Metrolink stop at 11.35pm and the man asked if the boy would like to go to St Mary’s Church.

On arrival the man asked the boy to touch him sexually and when the boy refused the offender offered to touch the boy instead saying he would pay to do so.

The 13-year-old declined to take part and while no physical assault took place detectives are investigating this as incitement to engage in sexual activity.

Detective Constable Barbara Offord said: “We have exhausted a number of lines of enquiry in our efforts to find the person responsible and I am now appealing for the public’s help to trace this man.

“The CCTV footage is of good quality and this man will be recognised by any friends, family members or work colleagues who see this appeal and I need them to call us.

“Also, if anyone else has any information about the man, the incident we are investigating or anything else which may assist us please get in touch.”

The man is described as white, between 5ft 8in to 5ft 11in tall, of chubby build with close shaven brown/greying hair, a big nose and he was wearing black trousers, a light blue check shirt and black coat.

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 9448, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
