Sky-high taxi prices over Christmas? Not this year! App comparing cab fares launches in Manchester

By Alan Ross

As taxi prices peak over the festive season, an app comparing cab fares across Manchester aims to let passengers find the best deal.

With premiums as high as 50% added onto trips made on New Year and Christmas, Trafford-based developer, JusTaxi, claims their app could save as customers much as £18 over just three trips

Fareed Baloch, owner of JusTaxi, said he wanted help people make the right decision when selecting the cheapest taxi firm.

“Many locals either use the same taxi company over and over, or phone the number on the side of the first cab they see pass by, without knowing whether they’re getting the best deal,” he said.

“With trains and flights, there are several comparison websites available to help ease this problem, so I wanted to offer an easy-to-use solution for taxi users.

“There are 22 taxi firms registered with the Manchester City Council alone – with many more operating in the surrounding boroughs. Knowing which one to use can be a minefield.”

With visitor figures this year expected to exceed the 3.3million people that came to Manchester last year, the app which is free to download has arrived just in time.

One bonus of the service is that the GPS technology in smart phones and other devices allows the driver to arrive at the exact location that customers want to be picked up from so they do not have to wait out in the cold.

When using the service customers are quoted a set price which they can pay by card or in cash to the driver.
