Paul Goggins funeral: Mourners gather in Salford to honour MP ‘loved by whole community’ – in pictures

The funeral of Labour MP Paul Goggins has taken place at Salford Cathedral with Labour leader Ed Miliband among those in attendance.

The Labour leader told MM that the service was a good way to send off for the well-liked MP.

Family and friends of the Wythenshawe and Sale East MP turned out to pay their respects to the former Northern Ireland and Home Office minister.

Mr Goggins died on the January 7 after collapsing while out running with his son at the end of December.

Mr Miliband said to MM: I think it was a fitting tribute to him and he will be missed for his decency, integrity and kindness.

 

“Paul represented the best values in the community and he will be deeply missed.”

Members of the public were among those outside the cathedral paying their respects to Mr Goggins.

Tom Faulkner a 27-year-old student from Bury said: “Funerals are always sad. But they are even harder when someone loved by a whole community passes away.

“It was such a shock. It is a real shame for everyone”

Jaffar al haq, 33, from Salford said: “He was a really good leader for many years and will be sorely missed.
