How high can they go? Unstoppable juggernaut Manchester City rack up another five goals as 100 mark nears

By Alan Ross

Blackburn manager Gary Bowyer said he had to admire Manchester City’s quality as they smashed in five goals against Rovers to take their tally to 99 for the season.

The returning Argentinian striker Sergio Aguero grabbed a goal with Edin Dzeko and Alvaro Negredo both scoring two apiece to secure City’s progress into the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Despite Blackburn earning high praise from Sky Blues boss Manuel Pellegrini, Bowyer was effusive in his praise for City.

“There are times when you just have to admire the quality and they certainly have that,” Bowyer said.

“People talk about them winning all four competitions and it’s easy to see why when you see them play like that – they were outstandingly clinical today in front of goal.

“It’s not a harsh scoreline, you only have to look at the quality of finishing but I’m proud of my players tonight, the way they kept going.”

With the victory the Citizens set up a fourth round tie at home against Watford and Pellegrini was delighted with the performance.

“I act without thinking about the other team. It’s important to play in the same style, we try to play independent of the score at any one point – to keep improving in every moment of the game,” he said.

“I know it’s more easy to sit back and counter attack for two thirds of the game but it’s not my philosophy and I don’t think that it’s the philosophy the club wants.

“We want to always be an attractive team.”
