Scream and shout: Vocal Bury please manager Flitcroft in Mansfield win

Bury boss David Flitcroft believes the players are taking on some of his responsibilities after returning to winning ways against Mansfield Town.

The Shakers recorded their fifth victory in six games thanks to Ryan Tafazolli’s own goal, a win that moves the club four points off automatic promotion.

And Flitcroft insists that form has coincided with his players burdening themselves with decisions they were unable to make earlier in the campaign.

“I’m not having to scream as much on the side of the pitch, the players are taking ownership of the game and decisions,” he said.

“We’re setting up a culture and that’s key in any industry but especially football, if coaching from the side becomes less you’re going in the right direction.

“I’m developing leaders at the football club, Nathan Cameron, Chris Hussey, Kelvin Etuhu, Tom Soares and I couldn’t have said that about them all a year ago.”

Bury, who took their entire squad to Field Mill, are back in action on Tuesday as they travel away to York City hoping to maintain their current form.

Flitcroft also named new loan signing Tom Eaves in his squad and revealed after the win that he had been chasing the Bolton man for several months.

“Tommy has given us something a little bit different, I was delighted with his performance and delighted to get him,” added Flitcroft.

Eaves, who will stay with the Shakers until the end of the season, has only played five times for Wanderers since his 2010 move from Oldham Athletic.

And the 23-year-old believes that his new gaffer is the man to take Bury to the ‘next level’ as the former Barnsley manager continues his transformation.

“I spoke to Dave regularly and he’s really positive and energetic, everyone buys into what he says and I do completely,” he said.

“I made a few bad loan decisions but the manager here really wants me, he went out of his way to get me and I really think that makes a difference.”
