Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand left out of England Euro 2012 squad

Former Manchester United and England captain Rio Ferdinand was left out of Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2012 squad today.

The Reds defender is thought to have spoken to Hodgson who informed him that he will not be travelling to Poland and Ukraine this summer.

The 33-year-old has suffered with a long-term back problem and concerns were raised about his defensive partnership with John Terry.

The Chelsea captain is facing a court case just after the European competitions after being charged with making racist comments to Ferdinand’s younger brother Anton.

Terry will join teammate Frank Lampard in Hodgson’s squad which looks set to end Ferdinand’s 81-cap England career.

United teammate Danny Welbeck was included in the final 23-man squad, but Manchester City's Micah Richards and Adam Johnson were left out.
