Belle Vue Speedway: Aces face fine and points deduction after ‘wrongful postponement’ of Elite League clash

By Matt Davies

Belle Vue Aces face a points deduction and hefty fine following a hearing into the wrongful postponement of their Elite League meeting with Poole.

The Aces’ meeting with Poole on April 29 was called off in the early afternoon and the Speedway Control Bureau immediately launched an investigation.

Now the SCB has decided to impose a £5,000 fine and a three point deduction following a hearing on Tuesday.

“The SCB decided that the club responsible should receive a penalty, but that no other club should benefit,” a statement read.

“Furthermore the SCB believes this will give the public confidence for the future.

“Belle Vue were informed of the SCB findings by mail and now have to digest the decisions. Belle Vue have the opportunity to appeal to the Auto Cycle Union should they so wish.”

The meeting between the two clubs will be restaged at some point in the season, although a date is yet to be arranged.

The hearing panel also decided that for the remainder of this Elite League season, Belle Vue will be unable to cancel a meeting without the input of an SCB referee.

This means inspections will be guaranteed before any cancellations can take place.

Belle Vue are yet to decide on whether to appeal the decision and are ‘carefully considering their position’ according to a statement from the club.

The Aces next race meeting is at Kirkmanshulme Lane on Monday when they entertain the Lakeside Hammers, starting at 7.30pm.

Matej Zagar and Ales Dryml will be unavailable for the Aces due to their Grand Prix commitments, but Belle Vue are set to use the guest facility for both riders.
