Rydell High on tour: Grease lands at Manchester Palace Theatre

By Helen Le Caplain

Following its electrifyin’ four-year London run, Grease is back on tour, and coming to Manchester at the end of this month.

The Palace Theatre will host the 1972 cultural smash hit featuring Rydell High’s very own Pink Ladies and T Birds from September 26th  to October 8th.

The original high-school musical features all the classic songs including You’re The One That I Want, Summer Nights, Greased Lightnin’ and many more.

A Palace Theatre spokesman said that they were looking forward to hosting the hugely successful show.

She said: “The show is guaranteed to thrill audiences and leave everyone hand-jiving the night away with “a-wop-bop-a-loo-bop, a wop-bam-boom!”

Following in the footsteps of John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, who played the two leads in the 1978 film, Danny Bayne will star as Danny Zucko, and Carina Gillespie as high-school sweetheart Sandy.

Former Olympic champion and Dancing on Ice judge Robin Cousins will guest star as Teen Angel.

Danny Bayne won ITV’s Grease is the Word, and went on to make his West End debut as Danny, playing the role for over two years at the Piccadilly Theatre to sell-out audiences.

And he’s no stranger to the Manchester stage, last summer he played the role of Corny Collins in Hairspray at the Opera House.

Grease returned to the West End in July 2007 and during its triumphant run played over 1,500 performances.

It was seen by over 1.5 million theatre-goers at the Piccadilly Theatre, where it became the longest running show in the venue’s history.

Grease closed in London on April 30 2011 after a hugely successful four years and immediately embarked upon this new tour.
