Girl, 11, becomes target of ‘terrifying’ abduction attempt as man tries to snatch her from Hyde back garden

By Danielle Wainwright

A man attempted to abduct an 11-year-old girl from her Hyde back garden on Saturday in broad daylight after he grabbed her when he claimed he was lost.

The incident occurred at around 12.05pm when a man walked round the side of a house on School Lane, walked onto the garden and told the girl that he was lost.

When she came towards him, the man tried to grab her left wrist and the girl screamed kicking out at the man who then fled.

The girl ran into her home and told her parents who called the police.

Detective Constable Ian Parker said: “This was a terrifying experience for the victim. She managed to fight off this man, who was audacious enough to approach her while she was in the sanctity of her back garden.

“We are appealing to any possible witnesses to come forward and assist our investigation.

“We understand that this incident will cause a lot of concern in the community. We would therefore like to reassure residents that all patrolling officers have been given a detailed description of this man, and we will do all we can to address concerns and, more importantly, find the man responsible.”

The man is described as being white and in his late 40s, about 6ft tall and of slim build. He had short blonde hair, a deep voice and spoke with a local accent.

He wore a heavy black coat, blue jeans and black trainers which are described as having orange markings on them.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 9395 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
