Skate your heart out: The House of Vans travels to Manchester this October

The House of Vans' weekend of music, art, street culture and skateboarding will arrive in Manchester at the Great Northern Warehouse at the beginning of October.

The 900 strong warehouse in Deansgate will be transformed into a free entry culture hub between October 2 and 3.

The creative culture at the centre of the brand has been taken to broader audiences through pop-up festivals in cities such as Berlin and Seoul, and Manchester will fit perfectly with these vibrant past hosts.

Vans and skateboarding are infamous partners and this event is no exception. There will be pro demonstrations on a custom built obstacle paying homage to Manchester.

And for beginners, skate schools will run all afternoon on Saturday in a dedicated skate area courtesy of Manchester’s own Black Sheep Skateboard Store.

Paul Harrison from Black Sheep told MM: “The really exciting thing is the fact they are in unusual environments for the skaters that want to use them.

“We have been involved with Vans for the last 8 years [..] also personally, many of us have worn Vans over the last 30 years, so it’s a big part of our lives and a real privilege to still work with the brand.

“The House of Vans is based all year round in London so when it goes on annual leave it has to come to the UK’s second capital, Manchester. Maybe one day we will be lucky enough for it to reside permanently in Manchester.”

Art exhibitions will be displayed featuring works by specially selected Size? & Vans ambassadors.

Illustrator Jake B and street artist Krek will be there to help create prints for a commemorative fanzine during printing classes for the guests, who can leave their mark on the event.

For those who are creative, the workshops are offering the chance to get a customised Vans t-shirt from Man Up Girl! – a southcoast skateboarding store.
