Home improvement: Dunn wants Oldham’s Chesterfield away form at Boundary Park

David Dunn claimed his second win as Oldham boss thanks to two second-half goals in Chesterfield, despite what the manager called an out-of-character first-half display.

Better on the road than in Oldham in recent months, the visitors bounced back from a goal down to maintain their unbeaten away record this campaign.

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake opened the scoring for the hosts before the break, but Dominic Poleon equalised, before Danny Philliskirk snatched a Latics winner 3 minutes from time.

“Sometimes it’s not too bad away from home to go in one-nil down,” said Dunn.

“You can regroup, and give them that kick up the backside that I think they needed.

“I thought our second-half performance deserved the win. We came out of the traps well and we kept the momentum pretty well.

“I was quite pleased at the end – that’s for sure.”

Dunn has now overseen two Oldham victories in the space of four league games, both away from home, to preserve his side’s nine-match unbeaten streak away from Boundary Park.

With three home games in the space of seven days next up for Dunn, the attention turns to converting home performances into points.

The first hurdle is an FA Cup replay with League Two side Mansfield, who held Latics to a 0-0 draw at Field Mill two Saturdays ago.

“It’s an important game,” said the 35-year-old.

“That’s the three points we have got here, but I’m sure it won’t mean too much unless we go on.

“We have a couple of home games now so we need to improve our home form, like we keep saying.

“If we can replicate what we’re doing away from home at home then we’ll certainly be better for it.”

Dunn also sent his best wishes, along with those of the players, staff, and club, to an Oldham fan who was taken ill at the Proact Stadium during Saturday’s game.
