By Danielle Wainwright

The body of a woman’s body has been found at her home in Littleborough with stab wounds and police have arrested her son on suspicion of murder.

Police were called to the home on Calf Hey, Shore Road, on Saturday after a call from a public telephone alerted them to the discovery.

The woman has been named as Glennis Brierley.

Her 45-year-old son was arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder and is being questioned by officers.

Superintendent Chris Hankinson said: “This woman has been murdered in her own home and our focus is on ensuring justice is done and the perpetrator is brought to justice.

“We were able to act swiftly and make an arrest but clearly there is still a lot of work to be done and I would ask anyone with information that could assist our investigation to come forward.

“The Littleborough community will no doubt be shocked by what has gone on and we will have officers in the area to speak to anyone should they want to talk to us.

“I also want to reassure them and the wider public of Greater Manchester that we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this woman’s murder.”

A post mortem is due to take place.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
