Police probe Manchester City’s Aleksandar Kolarov in racist abuse allegation at Newcastle United

By Chris Bailey

Manchester City left-back Aleksandar Kolarov is being investigated by police for alleged racial abuse during his side’s victory over Newcastle United.

Kolarov – who came on in the 37th minute for the injured Samir Nasri – is understood to have become involved in a verbal exchange with two Newcastle supporters while warming up.

The fans had reportedly waved an Albanian flag near the Serbia international and are believed to have complained to stewards following the incident at St James’ Park.

Albania and Serbia have a history of tense relations surrounding the disputed Kosovo region.

A Northumbria police spokesperson said enquiries were on-going and allegations of such kind are taken 'extremely seriously'.

Neither club has yet responded to the allegation.
