Preview: Lawson @ Sound Control – January 20

Hailing from the four corners of England, Lawson emerge as one of the hottest pop-rock bands of the moment.

This Friday sees the lads bring their first UK headline tour to Manchester’s Sound Control. 2012 has already been earmarked as Lawson’s year and with the festival season just around the corner, an early tour is an idyllic way to iron out the creases.

After using social networking and video sites to form, singer/guitarist Andy, lead axe-man Joel, bassist Ryan and drummer Adam have teamed up with Grammy award-winning producer John Shanks to hone their no-nonsense nature.

Their decision to work with Shanks, who has worked with Bon Jovi, Alanis Morissette and Take That, has enabled the four-piece to connect with their highly anticipated potential. A potential which has seen them expand into supporting Will Young at The Manchester Apollo and opening up in front of 5,000 strong venues for The Wanted; the band recalled a time when they failed to attract a crowd bigger than the sound guy and landlord.

There’s an aura of eclecticism about the band as they use inspiration from The Eagles to The Searchers, Kanye West to John Mayer and the archetypal Rolling Stones, to write their emotionally honest songs. Combining this with a robustly melodic guitar underbelly, Lawson arrive as a result of diligent perseverance.

Mancunian Matters will be reviewing Friday’s performance, watch this space for a review with interview.
