Welcome to Disneyland: Football villain Carlos Tevez takes the Mickey with World Cup snub

Former Manchester United and City star Carlos Tevez has claimed he will not make this summer’s World Cup – because he is heading to Disney Land.

The footballing villain is accustomed to causing controversy and, despite being in a rich vein of form for current club Juventus, the Argentinean plans to play no part in his nation’s bid for World Cup glory.

In a recent interview with Cronica.com.ar, Tevez opened up about what he’ll be doing during this summer’s tournament.

“I don’t think I will watch my national team play at the World Cup. I’ve already bought tickets to go with my wife and my three children to Disney World,” said the 30-year-old.

“They deserve this trip and I have been very clear in my mind where my place in. Things are as they are and that’s that.”

Tevez is set to swap Manaus for Mickey Mouse this summer as family plans trump World Cup dreams and the Juve striker plans to spend more time with Tigger than his team-mates.

Despite not planning to watch the global FIFA rollercoaster, Tevez claims he is still 100% behind the national team.

“I will nevertheless be Argentina’s number one fan. My candidates for the title are Argentina, Brazil and Germany in that order,” he said.

“I don’t think I will be able to watch the games because that would make me very nervous and be nostalgic.”

During his time in the North West, Tevez was often the centre of attention as the star striker transferred across the city from Manchester United to bitter rivals City.

While Manchester City captain, Tevez managed to carry his side to FA Cup glory – their first silverware in 35 years.

Tevez was also the focal point for City’s rise to prominence and was featured on the cheeky ‘Welcome to Manchester sign’ which ticked off United fans no-end.

Tevez also did himself no favours in the Stretford End by holding up an ‘RIP Fergie’ sign during the celebrations following Manchester City’s maiden Premier League title.

However, it wasn’t long before Tevez was also involved in a spat with Italian manager Roberto Mancini.

The war of words between the pair influenced Tevez’s decision to take a mid-season break to tee-off on a Buenos Aires golf course – ticking off the majority of City fans.

The striker did eventually return to the club several weeks later having been heavily fined and denied a loyalty bonus.

Argentina are poised to play Iran, Nigeria and Bosnia and Herzegovina in World Cup Group F this summer and are the bookies’ favourites to qualify for the second round.
