Manchester United have scored a pre-season victory over Manchester City by placing third in Forbes business magazine's top 50 most valuable sports team... compared to the Premier League champions' 49th place.

The list is headed up by European champions Real Madrid ($3.44billion) and fellow Spanish juggernaut Barcelona ($3.2billion), with United ($2.81billion) completing football's podium dominance.

Thereafter a catalogue of North American franchises steal all the glory, with German champions Bayern Munich ($1.85billion), who contain many of the country's World Cup winners, placing seventh.

The next football team is 16th-placed Arsenal with $1.331billion of worth and then Chelsea in 48th ($867million), City ($863million) and 50th-placed AC Milan ($856million).
