Machete attack leaves Manchester man with serious head injuries – police dismiss David Short retaliation

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after being violently attacked with a machete in Manchester – officers have dismissed any connections with the murder of David Short.

Police were called to the brutal assault on Shortwood Close, Newton Heath, at 1.35pm yesterday and found a 35-year-old with severe injuries.

The man had been slashed with a knife and suffered wounds to his head, arm and hands – he was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition after the targeted attack.

Chief Inspector Sarah Jones said: "We are in the early stages of our investigation and would like to appeal for any witnesses to come forward.

"We would also like to reassure residents that we do not believe this was a random attack and they should not be overly alarmed. Additional patrols are in place in the area.

"At this time, we do not believe that this incident is connected in any way to the death of David Short last week.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 3540 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
