Wrong-way driver due in Bury court after young woman killed in M62 horror smash

By Dean Wilkins

A man is due in Bury Magistrates’ Court today after killing a young woman while driving his car the wrong way up the M62.

Wilfred Museka was driving his Renault Megane on the wrong side of the eastbound carriageway when he ploughed into a Chevrolet Matiz just near to junction 21 – leaving 20-year-old Rebecca Caine dead.

Museka, 31, of Powell Street, Clayton, is charged with causing death by dangerous driving, fraud by false representation, driving without insurance and driving other than in accordance with a driving licence.

Sergeant Lee Westhead, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A young girl has tragically died in what appears to have been a totally avoidable collision.

“A team of specialist officers are now investigating and we are providing support to the victim's family. My thoughts are with the victim's family at this terrible time.

“I am keen to hear from anyone who saw the collision or a Renault Megane driving westbound on the eastbound carriageway of the M62 in the early hours of yesterday morning.”

The driver of the Matiz and two other passengers suffered minor injuries.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741.
