E-fit: Man suspected of attempting to abduct schoolgirl as she played in the back garden of her Hyde home

By Danielle Wainwright

An e-fit of a man suspected of attempting to abduct an 11-year-old schoolgirl from her Hyde back garden on Saturday has been released.

The man approached the girl on School Lane who was playing outside at around 12.05pm and told her he was lost. As she came toward him, the man grabbed her left wrist before the girl kicked out at him and ran inside her house.

The man then fled as her parents rang the police. Police now hope the e-fit will help capture the offender.

He is described as being a white man in his late 40s, about 6ft tall and of slim build. He had short blonde hair, a deep voice and spoke with a local accent.

He wore a heavy black coat, blue jeans and black trainers which are described as having orange markings on them.

Detective Inspector Richard Hunt said: “Since this incident, we have made a number of enquiries to help find the man responsible so he can be apprehended as soon as possible.

“Among these efforts, specially trained officers have sat down with the victim who has had the courage to be able to help put together a detailed e-fit.

“Understandably, there has been concern among residents about what has happened. We are working hard to reassure our communities that we are doing everything we can.

“We take pride in policing the communities of Hyde and helping people feel safe as they go about their daily business, as such, patrols in the area have been stepped up, and we are also working closely with local schools in the area.”

Anyone with any information should call police on 0161 856 9395 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
