Olympic Heroes Parade: View traffic hotspots HERE with TfGM heatmap

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has provided a heat map to help avoid traffic jams in the city centre during the Athletes’ Parade this afternoon.

The parade will set off from the Museum of Science and Industry at around 4:30pm before heading down Deansgate and back in a loop through the city centre, ending in Albert Square.

REAL BUZZ: Manchester has been working tirelessly to prepare for today’s Olympic and Paralympic celebration

The map identifies this route along with the road closures and areas where congestion is expected to be light, medium and heavy.

There will be additional parking spaces, trams and trains available for the event in order to ensure maximum ease of travel for spectators.

The event organiser for TfGM, John Fryer, said: “The parade is creating a real buzz around the city and I for one cannot wait to welcome our Olympic and Paralympic champions.

“Since it was announced that Manchester would front and centre of the celebratory events to mark our athletes’ remarkable achievements in Rio, we’ve been working tirelessly behind the scenes with our partners to plan and prepare for the event.”

He also made it clear that TfGM was not discouraging car use, but simply trying to avoid long waits and traffic jams in the city centre.

More updates on the public transport links and traffic information for the parade can be found on TfGM’s website or Twitter.
