Everyone would want my job: Roberto Mancini never fazed by rumours linking Pep Guardiola with Manchester City

Cool customer Roberto Mancini brushed off claims he was worried by speculation linking Pep Guardiola to his job at Manchester City.

The former Barcelona manager stepped down from the Catalan giants’ job in the summer and has been regularly liked with City since.

But, after Guardiola accepted the Bayern Munich job this week, Mancini dismissed suggestions he ever felt threatened by the speculation.

“I didn’t have any problem for this,” he said.

“I understand the newspapers should write that every manager wants to take this place because it is a good place.

“But I think we work very well here, I have a five-year contract and I think this is possible for five years.”

Mancini guided City to their first top-flight title in 44 years last season and committed himself to the club until 2017.

However, this campaign has not gone so smoothly and the Italian finds his side seven points behind table-toppers Manchester United.

When asked if Guardiola’s choice of Bayern Munich surprised him, Mancini did not want to get too involved.

He said: “I don’t know – you should ask him.

“Bayern Munich is one of the top clubs in the world for its history, like Barca.

“If he decides this it is because it is the best solution for him.”

City host Fulham this weekend, as they bid to reduce the gap between themselves and rivals United.

And with one source of pressure lifted, Mancini can focus on once again coming from behind to claim the Premier League title.
