Endurance stroll, ramble and roll: Manchester Uni students organise gruelling 24-hour walk and cycle for charity

A gruelling 24-hour sponsored walk or cycle will pit Manchester University students against the elements in a bid to raise £50,000 for Oxfam.

The charitable walk, known as Bogle, is set to take place February 28 at 7pm, starting and ending at The University of Manchester’s North campus.

Participants can choose how they want to tackle their Bogle experience, offering three levels of difficulty.

Those brave enough can choose an exhausting 55 mile stroll, or if that sounds a little daunting there is a shorter 26 mile rumble, as it has been named by students.

Budding cyclists can also opt for a lengthy or participants can choose to cycle and roll 78 miles.

Third-year student at the University of Manchester, Jo Tripney, has inherited the responsibility of organising the event.

She said: “I have been involved in smaller fundraising events since my first year, I wanted to take on something bigger to give people a platform.

“I want to make a difference.”

With the help of Spacia Yong, and the rest of the RAG committee (Raise and Give), Miss Tripney has chosen Oxfam as this year’s Charity.

“Oxfam is a charity close to our hearts, they fight poverty at its roots, we are supporting Oxfam’s mother appeal, which will give mothers worldwide the lift they need,” she told MM.

“Everyone has the right to realize their potential, and live free from poverty, no matter where they were born.

“The UK government will match the value of the funds we raise to the Oxfam Mother Appeal, doubling the difference we are making.”
