Manchester set for economic takeoff as Airport City’s £15m logistics hub approved

Manchester businesses are jet set for ‘unrivalled’ access to the international market place as Airport City have been granted planning permission to build a new £15million logistics hub.

The new 13,000 square foot logistics facility, which will create up to 125 new jobs, is set to be completed in early 2016 and construction will start in the coming weeks.

The ALPHA project will offer a range of small to medium-sized commercial units that benefit from close proximity to Manchester Airport’ freight terminal and national motorway connections.

The units will range from 17,500 to 35,000 square foot and will feature bespoke office space, dedicated car parking and HGV delivery access.

Manchester Airport Group’s Divisional Property CEO Lynda Shillaw said: “We are seeing healthy demand for logistics property at Airport City and the ALPHA development is an exciting addition to the range of products available to occupiers.

ALPHA is part of a £100 million logistics hub that will create 1,800 jobs as part of the government’s designated Enterprise Zone for Greater Manchester.

It will see the expansion of Manchester’s freight terminal in order to improve international trade, cut transit times and create more efficient and sustainable supply chains.

The new commercial site is also part of the 10-year, £800million Airport City redevelopment that will transform Manchester Airport from a regional transport hub into an international business destination.

Over the next decade Airport City will create over 16,000 jobs for the Greater Manchester community, boosting the local economy.
