Birmingham Royal Ballet to roll into Salford with TEN lorries in tow for grand production of Cinderella

The Birmingham Royal Ballet is coming to Salford – and they’re bringing ten articulate lorries with them.

In what promises to be an awe-inspiring production, the classical touring company will be performing Cinderella at The Lowry from March 1.

The show is recognised as one of the grandest in the world of theatre and requires a whole fleet of vehicles to bring the scenery and props.

Amongst the items in tow will include 20 fat suits, 78 wigs and 1000 hair pins.

Of course, there will also be a huge team of people in the mix as 39 dancers and over 50 backstage staff get set to bring the classic fairy tale to life.

All in all, the set will take between two to three days to build ahead of the show’s opening night next month.

GRAND: The world-renowned ballet is coming to The Lowry

The spectacular production features choreography by BRB company director David Bintley.

During the two and a half hour show, the audience will be treated to composer Sergei Prokofiev’s original score which premiered in the ballet in 1945.

Meanwhile, the set and costume designs are by John F. Macfarlane – the same man who previously crafted the company’s The Nutcracker.

The production – which won Best Classical Choreography at the prestigious 2011 Critic’s Circle National Dance Awards – will include three acts as it re-tells the story of Cinderella.

There will be two ugly sisters, a fairy godmother and, of course, a glass slipper.

*Cinderella is showing at The Lowry from Wed 1 March – Sat 4 March. Tickets can be purchased here.
