Bomb disposal experts were called to a primary school in Oldham after a suspected WW2 projectile was dug up in its grounds – for the second time in a month.
Around 8am this morning the Explosive Ordnance Team (EOD) attended Yew Tree Community school in Chadderton, Oldham, following reports that a WW2 device had been found.
Parents were immediately contacted to make arrangements to pick up their children.
A 50-metre cordon has been put in place by police and roads surrounding the school have been closed off, though they have confirmed there is no danger to the general public.
Oldham Council has confirmed the school will be closed ‘until further notice’.
There are no reports of any injuries.

It’s the second time this month a WW2 relic has been found on the school grounds.
Earlier this month, part of a WW2 artillery gun was discovered underneath the school’s playing fields as a parent-governor was digging to install posts for new benches.
The hollow device was sent off to the Ministry of Defence for analysis who later confirmed it to be part of a firing mechanism from an artillery.
The school is close to the former BAE site in Chadderton, which opened when the Second World War began in 1939.
