All aboard as Uber puts on free rides to exclusive SECRET intimate Manchester gig

Manchester gig-goers are in for a treat tonight with taxi app Uber giving music aficionados the chance to see an intimate secret gig somewhere in the city.

Tonight’s event is in partnership with Sofar Sounds, a group whose philosophy is ‘less is more’ when it comes to music – and the organisers behind September’s Hozier gig in a tiny Chapel Street flat.

Joining five other cities up and down the country, one undisclosed Manchester venue will welcome just 150 lucky riders for ‘an experience like nothing else in a month of music festivals’, Uber promised today.

Uber users interested in heading down to tonight’s gig need to be quick though – the code ‘UBERLIVEUK’ needs to be entered into the promotions section of the app before 5pm.

And then from 6.45pm, where there’s the option of selecting between the standard cab and the minibus option, an extra choice will appear – to request an ‘UberLIVE’.

If you’re successful, Uber says, a driver will collect a maximum of two people (aged 18+) and take you to a ‘top secret’ venue somewhere in the city – for free.

With artists like Will Young and Bastille having taken the stage in ordinary audience members’ living rooms for previous Sofar gigs, the identity of who will be playing tonight is a complete mystery.

Tom Lovett, Commercial Director at Sofar Sounds said: “We’re all about the magic that happens when you bring great people together to do great things, in new and exciting ways around their city.

“Partnering with Uber for UberLIVE gives us the opportunity to further do just that – allowing more music lovers to discover the Sofar experience in the process.”
