Mai-gone: Manchester City defender Maicon puts Blues behind him in move to Roma

By Marios Papaloizou

Manchester City right back Maicon has ended his unimpressive stint with the Blues, signing to Italian giants Roma for an undisclosed fee.

The 31-year-old Brazilian joined City last year but struggled to maintain consistent form or fitness.

With Micah Richards and Pablo Zabaleta both vying for City’s right-back spot Maicon was deemed surplus to requirements and allowed to return to Serie A.

The Brazilian had previously enjoyed a six-year spell in Serie A winning an array of trophies with Inter Milan.

Maicon’s transfer represents a continuation of Pellegrini’s restructuring of his squad in preparation for the new season with several players already leaving.

The Chilean has also brought in winger Jesus Navas and Fernandinho and more signings are expected imminently.
