Striker crisis averted? Alvaro Negredo will join Manchester City following medical, according to Sevilla

By Marios Papaloizou

Manchester City have signed Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo subject to a medical, according to the Spanish club.

The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Blues over the last few weeks and it now appears that a deal has been struck.

Speaking at a farewell press conference in Seville, the striker said: “For four years I have been very happy, but I think my time was over here.”

The deal is reportedly worth around £20million and will see Negredo join his former team-mate Jesus Navas at the Etihad Stadium.

“I am happy to be spending another year with him,” he said.

Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido released a statement on Wednesday hailing the deal.

“Manchester City are buying a great player, the top-scoring Spaniard in La Liga,” he said.

“Everyone should be happy – it is a great deal for all three parties.”

The former Real Madrid man hit 26 La Liga goals last season.
