Manchester’s Cloud 23 to raise dough with pink-themed afternoon tea for cancer charity’s bake off campaign

By Danielle Wainwright

An assortment of pink afternoon tea delights will be served throughout October as Manchester’s Hilton hotel aims to raise money in support of Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s ‘Great Pink Bake Off’ campaign.

The perfectly pink-themed menu, created exclusively for the Cloud 23 bar has been created by Executive Head Chef David Gale with each sale donating £1 to the charity.

The campaign is urging food-lovers across Manchester to get involved to help fund further research of the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer in the UK.

John McLaughlin, General Manager of Hilton Manchester Deansgate, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s “Go Pink” campaign this October with our pink afternoon tea.

“Afternoon tea is extremely popular at Cloud 23 so I’m sure we will be able to make a positive contribution to the charity through this initiative.

“I want to encourage the diners of Manchester to get behind us and support this very worthwhile cause by treating themselves and their friends and family to a special pink afternoon tea.”

Afternoon treats will include a delicious selection of sandwiches including smoked salmon, chicken with roast peppers, roasted vegetables with hummus and a cheese and chilli wrap.

And for desserts a selection of cherry scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream, chocolate cupcakes with pink frosting, strawberry macaroons and vanilla éclairs with pink icing will be available washed down with a 1930’s Cosmopolitan.

Sian Fraser, Head Baker for Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s Great Pink Bake Off, added: “We hope everyone gets involved with this year’s Great Pink Bake Off.

“The need for Breakthrough’s research has never been greater; breast cancer affects 50,000 women every year and killing 1,000 every month.

“We are urging everyone to raise some dough and help us beat breast cancer.”
