Wigan to show support for leukaemia-battling Garcia as they target Fleetwood win

Wigan will dedicate the home match against Fleetwood this weekend to left back Juan Carlos Garcia as they look for a much needed win back on home turf.

Honduras international Garcia is still receiving treatment for leukaemia after being diagnosed in February and the club are calling for the fans to show their support.

The loss at Port Vale last week means the Latics have now lost three of their four away games so far but at home they have been a different proposition.

Yet to concede on their own patch this season, Wigan welcome Fleetwood Town this time around for their first ever league meeting between the sides.

And manager Gary Caldwell is looking for his players to feed from the special atmosphere and continue their unbeaten start at home.

“Hopefully we can have a good day, the club can show its support and we can get a win for him”, he told the club website.

“It’s been tragic what has happened to Juan, the whole club are thinking about him and giving their support to him and hope that he gets better quickly.

“It brings football into perspective and you realise what’s really important in life.”

Fans are being invited to send messages of support  in to the official Twitter account @LaticsOfficial, on Facebook at facebook.com/wiganathletic, via Instagram to ‘laticsofficial’ or directly onto social media hub Latics Wall at wiganathletic.com/wall

The players will also warm up in Leukaemia Care T-Shirts; while there will be a bucket collection inside and outside the stadium on the day.

The Cod Army arrive at the DW Stadium in 13th place, a point behind Latics, after failing to win in their last three fixtures.

And with only one clean sheet to their name in eight games in all competitions, defensive frailties will need to be exposed again by Wigan if they are to get back to winning ways.
