David Dunn has taken a frosty view of his Oldham side’s league position as Christmas approaches, but said now is not the time to dwell on the past as his side travel to Coventry.
The Latics sit joint bottom of League One with Crewe, having suffered three consecutive league defeats before last week’s postponed fixture with Millwall.
Coventry, on the other hand, are flying in second place and Dunn admits it will be a big ask to come away with an all-important win.
“Coventry are a fantastic side, who really play good football,” said Dunn.
“We will have a game plan to try and stop them doing that, and hopefully our quality will come through as well.
“We have players that can play, and it is just a matter of getting that confidence out of them and replicating their training performance on a Saturday.”
Oldham have had more joy on the road than at home, winning two of their last four away clashes, and are also unbeaten in their last four meetings with the Sky Blues.
But this will be difficult to uphold against a Coventry side who boast an unbeaten home record, while the languishing Latics are still waiting for their first ever win at the Ricoh Arena to dig themselves out of trouble.
“We have not won as many games this season as we should have,” said Dunn, who this week welcomed Rhys Turner and Rhys Murphy back into his fold following loan spells at York City and Crawley Town respectively.
“If we had turned a couple of those draws into wins, which we quite easily could’ve done, we might be looking at a different story.
“The reality is we are in the bottom four, and we have got to start winning games and fast.
“It is up to us now to try and put a smile back on everyone’s face.”
