Are you Kidd-ing? Assistant manager convinced Manchester City can still produce Premier League comeback

By Paddy von Behr

Manchester City can repeat last season’s Premier League heroics and retain their title, according to assistant manager Brian Kidd.

City – who clawed back eight points in six games last year – are 13 points adrift of Manchester United with six left to play.

And Kidd insists, despite the tougher task this time around, Roberto Mancini’s side will believe they can do it until it is mathematically impossible.

“Nobody thought Manchester United would drop eight points in six games and nobody knows – the title’s not over yet,” he said.

“It is United’s to lose but, make no mistake, there will be some jittery moments.

“It was a bad experience for them and they will have been shocked by it.

“I said it last year to the boss – it’s not over until it is mathematically finished with.”

Mancini has conceded on more than one occasion the title has been decided, but City’s recent derby win may have changed the mood at the Etihad Stadium.

Kidd insists what has been a disappointing campaign for City – including early Champions League exit and a poor showing in the league – could end in glory.

However, he conceded the squad are suffering from fatigue and a rotation system over the next few weeks is necessary to keep the players fresh.

“It could turn out a great season for Manchester City,” he said. “We could win the league and we could win the cup.

“Your rest is as important as training at this stage of the season.

“The same applies to clubs that are going for trophies, going for the league, or fighting relegation.”

City travel to White Hart Lane on Sunday to face Tottenham Hotspur, who are themselves in the hunt for a Champions League finish.
