Police appeal after pensioner left with ‘life-threatening’ injuries in Wythenshawe motorbike hit-and-run

An elderly man is in a ‘life-threatening condition’ following a collision with a motorbike on Rowlandsway, Wythenshawe.

The police were called to the scene at 1.45pm this afternoon where they found the man.

The victim, who is believed to be 67-years-old, had suffered a very serious head injury and has been taken to hospital where he is described as being in a life-threatening condition.

The rider of the motorbike abandoned the bike immediately following the collision and ran off on foot.

Sgt Mark Thomas, from Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “He is in a critical condition and has been taken to hospital to be treated for a serious head injury.”

Two motorbikes were being ridden down Rowlandsway towards Simonsway and one collided with the elderly man, causing his injuries.

He is described as being white, 19-20-years-old, of a skinny build and wearing a navy blue jumper with ‘ECKO’ written in baby blue-coloured writing across the chest, dark blue or black trousers and dark trousers. He was wearing a blue balaclava with ski-style goggles underneath. He was not wearing a helmet.

The rider fled down Wavell Road and was seen limping with an apparent injury to one of his legs.

The bike he abandoned is described as a maroon-coloured Kawasaki 500cc in a dirty, rusty condition.

There was a second bike being ridden alongside the maroon bike that collided with the elderly man, this bike also did not stop.

The second bike is red and white. The second rider was not wearing a helmet either.

Sgt Thomas added: “We have now issued good descriptions of the rider who abandoned his bike and the bike itself. We firmly believe someone in the community will know who these two motorcyclists are based on the descriptions we have issued, and we would urge anyone with information to come forward.

“The victim’s condition is life-threatening and I would urge people in the community who either witnessed what happened or who know the identity of these two riders to call us.

“I am also urging the two riders themselves, one of whom we believe has suffered an injury to his leg, to please do the right thing and come forward now.”
