Wigan Elvis stag attacked and left with THREE breaks to jaw before wedding

A groom-to-be dressed as Elvis Presley to celebrate his own stag do was knocked unconscious and suffered three breaks to his jaw in an unprovoked attack in Wigan last weekend.

The incident occurred outside Rainbow Taxis on Wigan Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield, at about 5.45am on Sunday November 16.

The 33-year-old victim had been enjoying a night out with his friends and was waiting for a taxi when he was approached by the offender, who initially asked him for a cigarette before senselessly unleashing a barrage of punches.

Detective Constable Cameron Hackett said: “Quite what prompted the offender to launch into a totally unprovoked and needless attack only he can know.

“Maybe he took exception to what the victim was wearing or maybe he was just drunk but whatever his motive, it was a senseless attack on a man who was simply out celebrating his upcoming nuptials.”

Bizarrely, the attacker then apologised and when the victim regained consciousness, he got into a cab to Wigan Hospital where he underwent surgery.

“This is no laughing matter, as this man will remember his stag do for all the wrong reasons,” said DC Hackett.

“He had to undergo surgery to repair three breaks to his jaw not to mention the emotional upheaval at a time when he should be planning for the happiest day of his life.”

The offender is described as being white, bald and wearing a grey or dark jumper.

Police are now appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
