The Manchester Show Choir set the festive season on fire at the weekend with Christmas carols in Victoria Station and a performance at Manchester Cathedral.

The choir sang along to merry Christmas numbers in aid of the Christie Charity, leading experts in cancer care, expertise and education.

Members of Corrie welcomed the festive season along with the Manchester Show Choir last night at Manchester Cathedral in aid of the Christie Charity.

“It is our last show of the year and as it is Christmas time, it’s a special time of year,” Andrew Smith, Musical Director for Manchester Show Choir said.

“It’s a friendly family concert.”

Corrie star, Debbie Rush who plays Anna Windass was part of the choir for the night but Catherine Tyldesley who plays Eva Price was not be able to attend as planned due to illness.

They have raised £30,000 in the last two and a half years through their singing charity to help the early trials research centre and chemotherapy day treatment.

Daniel Wood, founder of Manchester Show Choir said: “It’s a nice Christmas concert and hopefully we will raise lots of money for the Christie Charity.”

The Christmas on Broadway event included musical theatre numbers from Les Miserable and Evita to pop legendary songs from Abba.

“The Christie Charity is important to members of the choir who have been personally affected by it,” Mr Smith said.

“There is a community aspect to the Christie Charity; everyone is passionate about raising money.”

The choir played jolly Xmas songs in Victoria Station, such as ‘All I want for Christmas is You’ as the crowds gathered.

Kate Merridew- Clark, Teacher said: “It’s very Christmassy, all they need is more tinsel.”

The Manchester Show Choir is made up of members of the public and anyone can join.

The choir will be accepting new members in January 2012 and budding singers can register by visiting the MSC website below.
