Fashion trends and events to look forward to in 2019: MM’s top tips

With 2019 now in full swing let’s see what this year has to offer us and what trends and events are set to become the staple of the fashion industry.

Whenever there is a major event, fashion styles and trends take off with fans trying to replicate their own looks and styles.

The year kicked off with the Golden Globes and as predicted designers and celebrities really did outdo themselves.

The Animal Print may be expected to be back this year as Anne Hathaway’s leopard print Elie Saab ball gown for the Golden Globes has set new high expectations and is set to inspire many to do the same.

The Queen of our hearts, the one and the only Lady Gaga who wowed us all in the musical romantic drama A Star Is Born, wore a baby blue Valentino Haute Couture dress and cape designed by The Fashion Awards 2018 Designer of the Year Pierpaolo Piccioli.

To top it off Gaga matched her hair colour to her dress and wore an outstanding Tiffany Aurora necklace incorporated of more than 300 pear shaped and round vivid diamonds, with a focal point pear shaped diamond which is projected to be over 20 carats.

So will we be matching our hair colour to our outfits? Only time will tell.

In the personal favourite well-dressed department were Sandra Oh, Jamie Lee Curtis, Emily Blunt, Charlize Theron, Julia Roberts, Timothée Chalamet, Richard Madden and Michael B. Jordan. Designer brands Armani, Maison Valentino, Vera Wang and Louis Vuitton brought their A game as did many others.

As we move on let’s look at some of the upcoming events that may influence the fashion trends further this year.

The Met Gala

The Met Gala which is a major event in the fashion industry is a benefit which encourages fundraising and donations.

The event has been managed by the US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who recruits some of the most renowned faces to serve as her co-chairs. The event takes place in the first Monday of May which this year will be Monday May 6.

Last year’s Met Gala donned the theme Heavenly Bodies focusing and exploring the influence of Catholicism, with the co-chairs Amal Clooney, Rihanna, and Donatella Versace wearing some of the most iconic beautiful dresses.

This year’s Met Gala is set to be co-chaired by the likes of Lady Gaga, Harry Styles and Serena Williams and the theme is “Camp: Notes On Fashion”.

Now you may be wondering what does that mean? Well the contemporary definition of “camp” is often linked to the term flamboyant. The exposition is encouraged and informed largely by Susan Sontag’s vivid 1964 essay, “Notes on ‘Camp’”.

Vanessa Freidman of New York Times writes that “From “RuPaul’s Drag Race” to the current celebration of all things Warhol and Banksy’s self-destructing painting, Mr. Bolton sees the explosion of camp as a partial riposte to the corresponding rise of extreme conservatism and populism”.

Celebrity inspired weddings

2018 was the year of celebrity weddings from the Royal weddings to Priyanka Chopra’s intercultural wedding and to Mandy Moore’s wedding with her opting to wear a pink dress rather than the traditional white.

Fans may take inspiration from their favourite celebrities whilst planning their own weddings. Small intimate weddings may become a trend as the likes of Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth, Justin Bieber and Hayley Baldwin – all of whom kept quiet and out of the spotlight with their weddings.

Priyanka Chopra’s 75ft long veil may be an inspiration for brides who want to go all out.

Designers like Valentino, Ralph Lauren and Givenchy were known for creating some of the most beautiful wedding dresses of 2018.

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, wore a Givenchy dress by Clare Waight Keller. The veil represented each Commonwealth country with the usage of the distinguishing individual flowers combined and united.

Gwyneth Paltrow wore a Valentino couture dress which consisted of beautiful lace embroidery and a lovely sheer veil.
